Hey there and welcome to another quick post, this time i’m going to explain the difference between having 2 ram sticks vs 1, this question often comes to your mind when you want to build a new pc or when you think of upgrading the ram to get better performance for things like gaming and video editing… etc, anyway, i’ll mention the advantages and disadvantages of both options and how to. Having 2 ram slots doesn't affect anything, other than the fact that upgrade options are more limited compared to having 4 slots.

I like the crucial ballistix 3200mhz 8gb ram sticks as they are cheap but i would have to order 4 single units of the ram sticks as they do not come as a 32gb kit.
Is 4 ram slots better than 2. If you have two 2gb modules and are adding a third for a total of 6gb vs. It's not going to be anything you actually can notice, but if you ran a benchmark you'd see a slightly better score with just 2 as 4 chips is slightly more taxing for the cpu. Always install ram in the slots from the bottom to the top.
Question 4 memory slots but slots 1 & 3 run at 2133mhz and slots 2 & 4 run at 3200mhz with same ram: However, as chris liu points. If you're planning to upgrade in the future to 64 better go for 2 x 16 gb first.
Going to 4 modules requires command rate increase from 1t to 2t and that causes slight performance hit. Secondly, if you plan on overclocking your memory at all now or in the perceivable future, two sticks will scale a lot better than four. Is 4 ram slots better than 2?
I cannot find any 8gbx4 kits at reasonable prices. Because 4x8gb does not come out to 16gb, it comes out to 32gb, if you were to run 4 sticks, it would be 4x4gb for 16gb. If you're not planning to upgrade, than the 4x8 is better than 2x16.
As in the thread title, if i was too install 2 x 2gb sticks in the 2 and 4 slots on my motherboard would the results be the same as if i used 1 and 3. That is, it is better to use many smaller size ram sticks to populate all channels than just a single or two large size sticks inserted into 1 or 2 memory channels. Question my task manager and cmd prompt both shows that i have 2 memory ram slots, but i see only one in the back
I've read in various places that the dual channel slots furthest from the cpu (2+4) are somehow better to use than slots 1+3 if you only have two sticks. I personally run 4x8gb because the other two sticks were an afterthought, i have no problems with it. As long as the motherboard has 4 memory slots, and the ddr3 memory you buy is compatible then you can use it without any real concern.
12 (4gb modules), you may still see some improvement, but it'll still depend on your particular setup and uses. Im building a new pc and i kinda want to fill all the 4 ram slots. On dual channel motherboard 2 ram modules give the best performance.
4gb, you'll almost certainly see better improvement from more ram than dual channel. The performance gains seen when fully populating the dimm slots in world war z are quite impressive, here the 9900k was up to 10% faster, while the 3900x was up to 9% faster. At least for the manufacturer, lol.
The more chips and slots that you use, the longer it takes to find the piece of data it needs. Not that it would be very noticeable, but it’s there. Memory slots 1 and 3 are yellow and 2 and 4 are red.
In the manual it says it can handle dual channel in both sets. Yeah it would be 2x8gb vs 4x8gb as the ram that i have are 8gb each. I'm upgrading to skylake and got 2 sticks of 8gb ddr4 to go with the new z170 mobo.
Is 4 sticks of ram bad? That said, even the lowest end b250 (intel) or b350 (amd) motherboards typically feature 4 ram slots. 2 sticks of 8gb is the best you can get in a normal motherboard.
If there is only one memory card and it is in the top slot, remove the top memory card before installing ram in the bottom slot. 4 slots used looks better than 2 though. And, fot the same technology, more space = more latency, therefore:
Question 2 slots dd3 memory not recognised after cpu upgrade from i7 920 to xeon 5670: “never put all your eggs in one basket” (ram comes with a lifetime warranty better to have a spare than not have a computer while waiting on your rma). Dual channel (up to 15% boost to fps in gaming).
Performance will be the same. If you're talking 8gb vs.
